The Internet ‘Favors None’ but ‘Hates None’ Either
Do you think that because you are African (or whatever nationality) is a reason for not making money online? Do you think the internet hates that you are a starting up webmaster and therefore you don’t get the attention you deserve like the many success stories told by the experienced. Do you have a reason to believe that the internet is not doing justice for your efforts to be visible online? Think again because the internet knows nobody but the domain name, content/text, the images/photos, the links that go in and out of your website and the several other technical attributes. It’s not about the person in you but your work.
People with attitudes cannot make it online. If you have an attitude of disqualifying yourself from the competition by giving funny reasons, you may as well go back to the drawing board to review your initial intensions of participating online. Other than the fact that to succeed, you must try hard enough, there are rules and procedures to follow to make success on the internet. Bellow are a few that have helped see some progress in my online endeavors.
Are You Using the Right Tool for what you want?
I started online using MS Publisher (the common Microsoft programme that normally comes with your computer) and was hopping to blog and sell some merchandise at the same time.
It simple didn’t work because MS Publisher has a lot of limitations, particularly when it comes to blogging. For example, I needed a programme that would have automatic sign-ups and comment submission. I had to change to WordPress as it is one of the best blogging software and the good thing about it is that it is FREE. WordPress comes with a lot of useful tools that you will need to promote your website. Almost everything is automated and get done at a click of a mouse. Read more about WP in the post ‘Don’t Waste Your Time with Professional Web-Designers‘ and ‘You Can Get Started without a Professional Designer’.
Are you focused?
You cannot sell merchandise, web-hosting and designing, provide legal services, promote some sporting activities, be a tour guide, build a mailing list and consult in one website. Combining many unrelated products and services together will not do you any good. You need to focus your efforts; at most you can offer three closely related services in one website in different pages.
Do you update your Knowledge?
Do you trouble yourself to find the reasons why you don’t receive your desired your response? It also matter to go beyond just getting traffic for your site, but work hard to retain your visitors. Is your site well designed to attract the target visitors or it would do better for a different service?
Make it your duty to learn new methods of improving your website. You do this by searching online and participating in related forums. There are a lot of free articles and eBooks to help you achieve your online goals.
I have learnt the following tips to be useful for webmasters:
- Keep posting or updating to make your site interesting and live.
- Submit your site to search engines and directories.
- Create a site map for your site.
- Don’t flood your site with ads and banners.
- Focus on helping people than making money.
- Be on the lookout for new and interesting features that will make your website up to standard.
- Location is not an issue, excellence is.
- Free quality content creates lasting results for your website that paid for traffic.
- ‘It Always is a Long Way Coming‘
- Never misinform your visitors.
- Adding photos and images to your site makes it more interesting.
Keep reading to learn the rules of the game. It is very unfortunate that there is no short cut to success but working hard and applying oneself.
