The Simple Method of Destroying Your Own Blog or Website
Today when I count back, I realize that I have invested 6 years of experience in internet marketing, with little success but good enough for a part timer, at least when I consider what I want to become eventually. I know what destroys a blog and what doesn’t. I have taken many hours readings, sometimes listening, to what expert internet marketers say. The truth is that not all that internet marketers recommend can be possible to do for some of us, at least in the short run, because we may not be capacitated to go all the way for various reasons.
The credo of MLM then applies; “If you do nothing – you get nothing, if you do a “little bit” – you’ll get a “little bit”, if you do a “little bit more” you’ll get a “little bit more” and if you do “your best” – you’ll get “the best”. I will first list some of the things that I don’t do and latter list those that I do, yet they have kept my blog getting listed with search engines.
Below are some of the additional things that I should be doing to promote my blog, yet I don’t even bother to do them:
- Serious keyword research to use for my articles
- Improve page titles
- Organic Search Engine Optimizing
- Article distribution
- Write articles for other sites
- Submit articles to newsletters
- One way links
- Invite others to publish content (have tried this but failed)
- Newsletter publication
- Newsletter directories
- Publish a mini-course
- Write testimonials
- Being helpful in forums
- Post free ads in forums
- Be helpful in discussion lists
- Keyword rich press releases
- RSS to email
- Remove broken links
- Podcasting
- Tweak internal linking
- Chase new affiliate programs
- Chase new fads and hot topics
- Join business associations
- Add a forum to my site
- Write free reports or white papers
- Write brandable reports
- Submit to ebook directories
- Offer to be a columnist
- Offer to moderate part of a forum
- Do something funny
- Be outrageous or controversial
- Newspaper websites
- Upload and tag my photos
- Use gimmicks
- Create deliberate “link bait”
- Syndicate my material
- Place a link in Yahoo! Answers
- Get links from eBay
- Get links from AdSense
- Add classified ads to my site
- Create my own fanclub
- Effective PPC advertising
- Buy ads in newsletters
- Advertise in less obvious places
- Create free web-based software
- Create downloadable software
- Get publicity for your software
- Create a funny video
- Use a signature file
- Email page to a friend
- Add to favorites
- Start an affiliate program
What does this mean? It means your blog or website does not need all of the above 52 points to survive. Mine is surviving on only the following website market efforts:
- Article directories
- Registering with search engines
- registering with directories
- Using relevant plugins
- Keeping my blog alive by posting quality articles (see how frequent here)
- Using a memorable domain name
- Using keywords in image files
- Submit hints to blogs
- Blog RSS feeds
- Use reliable hosting
- Tag my blog
- Try offline advertising
- Social networking (only twitter so far)
All the 13 points above are cost free yet they have seen me earn something from affiliate marketing. See my article “The African Online Money Maker that Works for Me”. I know that by mid 2010, I’ll be able to cover twice as much my monthly expenditure of keeping all my websites alive online.

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog.
