All of us have a spark of leadership in us, the challenge lies in understanding ourselves well enough to discover where we can use our gifts to become servants to others. I learnt with amazement how leadership scholars understand where leadership is based – being who you are. According to Bill George et al, ‘if scholars had produced a cookie-cutter leadership style, individuals would be forever trying to imitate it. They would make themselves persona, not people, and others would see through them immediately…’. He goes on to say that no one can be authentic by trying to imitate some else.

How can one be authentic?

First you must understand the story of your life. Authentic leaders would study their life experiences to know who they are and what they are capable of doing. They don’t only want good feedback about themselves but they believe that any bad in them can be turned into strengths. They devote themselves into realizing their potential, thus becoming an authentic leader is self taught.

Daily practices that define a leader include the following:

-           demonstrating a passion for your purpose

-          practicing your values consistently

-          leading with your heart and your head

-          being propelled by your private achievements, not the cars and fancy lifestyle

Nevertheless, all leaders must deliver bottom-line and lasting results. This is your small package to live by till I publish another article. I will be publishing my book ‘Making Money with Offline and Online Multi Level Marketing’ soon. So do check back soon for the news.
